Facebook Promotion Guidelines

Many marketers don’t realise that there are strict rules about what you can and cannot do when running promotions on Facebook. Read on to ensure you stay on the right side of the rules!

The rules changed on 11 May 2011 – your promotion may already be in breach, read the following carefully:

  • Promote in apps only: You can now run promotions only within Apps, either within a Canvas Page, Page Tab or App.
  • No Like button or Check Ins: You may not use Facebook features like the Like button or a Place check in as the entry or registration mechanism.
  • You are responsible: As the legal promoter, you are responsible for ensuring that your actions comply with relevant legislation covering considerations like official rules and terms and eligibility requirements.
  • Facebook is not responsible: You must exempt Facebook from all responsibility and association with the activity in your terms and conditions, and declare what data you will receive and how it will be used.

  1. The no like or check in button one is a little confusing. To break it down the rules in more detail, check out:  http://blog.rafflecopter.com/2011/06/giveaways-and-promotions-on-facebook/

  2. Thanks for the post although it seems odd that there are a couple of pretty big companies seemingly braking the rules.

Unless of course I am incorrect?
