How to disappear: deleting yourself from online sites

I’m often asked what’s the best way to set up your privacy settings on social media and other online sites. It’s a complicated area and one that’s evolving rapidly. Facebook recently bowed to public and media pressure and simplified their privacy settings (if you haven’t reviewed your Facebook settings yet, do it now) and other sites are following suit.
But have you ever wondered how you would go about closing down your online accounts? It can be surprisingly difficult and some sites (perhaps deliberately) make things a little more tricky than they could otherwise be. Thankfully Smashing Magazine has written a superb article that explains what you should do if the time comes for you to enjoy a more private existence. Enjoy the read here.
